In order to avoid any leakage from the damper, it is provided with overlapping leaves which can also be incorporated with compression and stop seals for more critical zones. A special device used in supplying and extracting air vertically without any kind of deflection is called a grill. A device used to direct the air at different angles by profiled blades when the air is leaving the unit and going into the space is known as a diffuser.
However, the register has a grill with a damper and a diffuser has an inlet or neck that is smaller than the face and the airflow usually makes a turn usually of 90 degrees as it exits the diffuser.
